# Clap Me — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 May 2026

Clap Me is a browser extension that plays a short celebration (applause sound, confetti, a GIF, and a hype caption) when the user clicks its toolbar icon to mark a finished task.

## Data we collect
None. Clap Me does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data, browsing data, or identifiers.

## Data stored locally on your device
Clap Me stores the following values locally in your browser via the chrome.storage API. These values never leave your device:
- Daily streak counter (consecutive days you have celebrated)
- Date of your last clap (used to detect streak resets)
- Lifetime claps counter (total celebrations)
- A short-lived timestamp used to back off after Giphy rate-limit responses

Uninstalling the extension removes all of this data.

## Third-party requests
When you click the Clap Me icon, the extension may fetch a random celebratory GIF from the public Giphy API
(https://api.giphy.com). This request transmits only an API key and a celebratory search tag (e.g. "happy cat"). No personal
data, page content, URL, or browsing information is sent.
Giphy's own privacy policy applies to that request:

If you are offline or Giphy is unavailable, Clap Me uses GIFs
bundled inside the extension and makes no network requests.

## Accounts, analytics, tracking
Clap Me has no accounts, no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, and no advertising.

## Children
Clap Me is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.

## Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at the same URL with a new "Last updated" date.
